If you’re a regular here, or even if you just drop by occasionally, chances are you’ll know I’m really into wheelchairs. I think they’re wonderful in all sorts of ways, but I have one on-going frustration – where do you put all your stuff when you’re using your chair?
I’ve searched everywhere for wheelchair bags that are both practical and stylish, but I’ve always drawn a blank.
A few years ago Leftwing Idiot bought me a bum bag, mainly I think because he was fed up with having to get me stuff from the bag on the back of my chair which I can’t reach by myself. While bum bags have provided an adequate solution I’ve always found it a annoying having something around my middle.
Then a few weeks ago I stumbled across a make of wheelchair bag that I’d not seen before. I was intrigued, so ordered one, and now I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks, I’m completely hooked.
The bag’s made by Quokka and it works a bit like a bicycle pannier. There’s an attachment that fixes to the frame of the wheelchair and the bag clips to this. You can take it on and off really easily and you can buy different sizes of bags and phone cases. Mine’s made me feel much more efficient and independent.
I’m always wary about sounding too much like a sales person but it was reviews by other wheelchair users that convinced me to get my Quokka and I’m really glad I did. It’s the first time I’ve come across a bag designed for a wheelchair that really is both practical and stylish.
And if you’re wondering about the name, I’ve discovered that a Quokka is a small Australian marsupial.
